The Deer and God Story

This is a testimony of God's presence and the power of His Word in the midst of difficulty. God's divine intervention, this is my deer and God story.

It was a cool, dusk, November evening and as I walked towards my parked vehicle, my heart was deeply grieved. Some troubling events caused my head to swim with fear and doubt and my mind was crying out the question, "God where are you in this?" As I looked up towards my van and blinked away tears I was startled to see a beautiful, large, deer standing a few feet away from the back of the vehicle. I fully expected him to bound away but instead he stood there very still and just stared at me. I started telling him what a beautiful, pure, piece of God's creation he was. I don't normally talk to animals although I have been known to sing to my cats--but, nonetheless, he just stood, peaceful and still. As I looked into those large, brown eyes, the Lord spoke some verses into my ear that I had previously studied in Women's Bible Study. They are from the book of Habakkuk chapter 3. He said, "The Sovereign Lord is my strength. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on to the heights." quivering, his legs trembling. But, he proclaims, "though the fig tree does not bud, and there are no grapes on the vine, though the olive crop fails and there are no sheep in the pen, or cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior."

I stood there with a tremendous sense of God's presence and sovereignty over my life. He would enable me to keep standing and it was my choice if I was going to be joyful. Then that magnificent creature of a deer slowly walked away and I drove home praising God.

I share this so you may know that God will help you to have the sure footed ness of a deer and enable you to also stand firm in the midst of your trials and slippery places.
